Author(s): MCPHEE JACK

Biography

The oldest living Nyamal (Pilbara) speaker recalls his life spent in the Central Western part of Western Australia, and Port Hedland's rough environs. Disowned by his real father, the storekeeper at Moolyella, Jack was brought up by his mother Mary Ann Bandijim and his "father in the Aboriginal way" Sandy McPhee. Jack's life spans most of the 20th century. With all the skill and enthusiasm of a born storyteller, he invites the reader to wander through the events and people of his life. With his stories of droving and mining work, he brings to life the many areas and people of the Pilbara area of Western Australia. His stories reveal much about Australia's rural history and race relations.
